Heroes of Newerth: Reborn is Kongor Studios new project built with the new Juvio engine, offering improved graphics, performance, and a better multiplayer experience compared to its predecessor.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Project Kongor (PK) Team & Community for their dedication in preserving the essence of HoN. To support PK's ongoing efforts, Kongor Studios will sponsor an upcoming tournament series and offer additional technical resources and assistance to maintain and enhance the community's experience while we are hard at work with HoN: Reborn.

We understand the excitement of wanting to play Heroes of Newerth: Reborn as soon as possible and our team is very hard at work to deliver!  We do plan to have beta phases that will be a mix of both closed and open as well as the eventual game release.

Through our Genesis campaign, there is an Early Access reward as well as a Play Now reward, you can find out more information here

Heroes of Newerth was an incredible game that achieved remarkable success in its time, and we are immensely proud of the legacy it created. However, as technology continues to evolve, we felt it was time to give Heroes of Newerth the modernization it deserves with the launch of Heroes of Newerth Reborn.

While Reborn introduces numerous improvements, including updated graphics, faster servers, and refined gameplay, we have also ensured that many beloved elements of the original remain intact. From iconic heroes and game modes to the signature fast-paced gameplay, we’ve worked to preserve the essence of what made HoN so special.

We understand that some players may prefer the original experience, regardless of the updates. However, we are confident that the enhancements in Heroes of Newerth Reborn will pave the way for a brighter and more exciting future for the game and its community.

As we gear up for the launch of Heroes of Newerth Reborn, we want to share some updates regarding the heroes that will be available at release. Our primary focus is to ensure that the game delivers the best possible experience—fast, smooth gameplay, updated visuals, balanced mechanics, and exciting matches from the moment you log in.

To achieve this, we’ve made the difficult decision to hold back some of the original Heroes of Newerth heroes at launch. This allows us to dedicate the time and resources needed to refine and balance these heroes, ensuring they meet the high standards we’re setting for HoN Reborn.

We understand that some of you may feel disappointed, especially if your favorite hero isn’t available right away. Please know that this decision was made with the long-term health and quality of the game in mind. Your patience and support mean everything to us as we work to make HoN Reborn a game we can all be proud of.

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. We’re excited to see how you’ll master the heroes available at launch and can’t wait to hear your feedback as we continue to grow and improve the game together.

Gameplay

Heroes of Newerth Reborn has 7 different roles in which you may be assigned when you join to play a ranked match.  Once you get to the hero selection screen, you will see which role you are assigned both in the chat, as well as the icon next to your name on your player tab within the lobby.

It is important you play the role you are assigned to not only ensure the greatest chance at success for your team to win, but also to prevent creating a toxic game environment which may also result in an account suspension in some cases.

Before you queue up to play a ranked match in HoN Reborn, you may select a priority list for which roles you would prefer to play.

There is no guarantee you will get one of your top priorities, however the game will very heavily value your top selections to give you the best chance possible to make sure you get a role you prefer to play.

There is only one client for Heroes of Newerth Reborn - which means that yes, you are able to group up and play with others from different regions around the world.

Inventory

On the Juvio website, navigate to the HoN Reborn Play page and select Inventory to view all items associated with your account.

In HoN Reborn, you can view your collection by opening your in-game profile.

This is intentional. A Juvio Marketplace is coming soon, allowing players to buy and sell items with other players. Owning multiple copies means you can sell duplicates and use the Jade you earn to purchase other skins on the marketplace.

Code of Conduct

At Reborn, we are committed to fostering an environment where players can freely express themselves. We believe freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, including the ability to communicate without fear of excessive moderation or unnecessary enforcement.

That said, freedom of expression comes with personal responsibility. Our philosophy is to empower players with the tools to shape their own experiences, while ensuring that baseline community standards are upheld to maintain a respectful and enjoyable environment for everyone.

Smurfing is defined as creating a new account to play in lower-ranked lobbies in order to gain an unfair competitive advantage over less experienced opponents.

We believe the responsibility for handling smurfing rests with us as the game operators. Our matchmaking and skill-rating systems must be sophisticated enough to identify highly skilled players and move them quickly toward their appropriate rating.

As such, we do not review reports or apply punitive action for suspected smurfing. Instead, we focus our efforts on designing, engineering, and continuously improving systems that minimize disruption and ensure fair competition for all players.

Reborn empowers players to shape their own in-game experience through the following self-moderation tools:

  • Profanity Filter: Optional and customizable, the profanity filter blocks a wide range of offensive or vulgar language.

  • Mute & Block: If a player is using text or voice communication you do not wish to see or hear, you may mute or block them at any time. Once muted or blocked, you will no longer receive communication from that player. Determining what is considered offensive is left to the player—this is not dictated by Kongor Studios or Juvio.

  • Avoid: Players may choose to avoid others they find disruptive or unpleasant to interact with. Being frequently avoided has consequences: accounts with higher avoid counts may experience increased matchmaking times and other negative effects.

  • Kick Voting: If a teammate is being disruptive, including behavior you consider excessively offensive in chat or voice communications, you may initiate a vote kick. A successful vote kick removes the player from the match, applies a loss, results in double MMR loss, and incurs a severe penalty of 8 Penalty Points.

All players receive 3 Avoids by default. Additional Avoids may be purchasable in the future.

At the end of each match, players will be able to vote for the Most Valuable Player (MVP). Each player is presented with a voting panel featuring their teammates and may select the player they most enjoyed playing with or who had the greatest impact on the match.

The player who receives the most MVP votes is awarded MVP status. Their MVP stat increases by 1, and 1 Penalty Point is removed from their account.

Players are expected to compete to win in every match and play the game as intended. This includes, but is not limited to, fulfilling your assigned role and avoiding intentional actions that negatively impact the match or the broader community.

The following behaviors are not permitted:

  • Cheating: Use of third-party software, scripts, macros, or unauthorized modifications.
Penalty severity is dependent on the offense.

  • Exploiting: Abusing bugs or glitches to gain an in-game advantage.
Penalty severity is dependent on the offense.

  • Intentional Loss / Sabotage / Refusal to Participate: Any action taken with the intent to undermine team performance or disrupt the match.

  • Role Participation: Players must play their assigned role. The Role Swap feature must be used for all role changes.

  • Item Abuse: Destroying, selling, or intentionally misusing items in bad faith.

  • Ability Abuse: Using abilities to intentionally harm, disrupt, or endanger teammates.

Be respectful. Play in a way that others can enjoy. Use language you would be comfortable hearing yourself.

Not every negative interaction requires escalation—players may mute, avoid, or disengage when needed. Exercising restraint and walking away is often the healthiest response.

There is no player reporting system. Our expectations for behavior are shaped by the values of the community, including Kongor Studios and Juvio staff.

Instead of manual enforcement, Reborn provides in-game self-moderation tools that allow players to manage their own experience directly.

Avoid List

Avoiding a player prevents them from being placed on your team in future matches. Players who are avoided receive a Penalty Point.

You can manage your Avoid List in-game by opening your profile and selecting the “Manage Avoid List” button.

You can avoid up to 3 players at a time by default. Additional Avoids may become available in the future.

New Player

There are currently 7 different roles that can be assigned in a game of Heroes of Newerth Reborn including;

Positioned in the middle lane, this hero gains solo experience and levels quickly, becoming a strong presence on the map early. They often roam to other lanes to secure kills and apply pressure.

This hero is typically weak early but grows powerful over time. They farm resources to become the primary damage dealer in the late game, "carrying" the team to victory.

This hero farms neutral camps in the jungle instead of a lane, focusing on accumulating gold and experience out of sight of the enemy team. Junglers help by ganking lanes, pushing towers, and bringing in extra resources to support their teammates while applying pressure on the map.

The primary support player, responsible for warding, healing, and protecting the carry. They typically don’t farm, instead focusing on enabling other team members and controlling the map.

Usually takes the harder lane and plays a more durable or utility-focused hero, paired up with another hero in this lane. Their role is to disrupt the enemy carry’s farm and survive on minimal resources while providing control and support for team fights.

Also known as "position 4", this player supports the team with utility and crowd control, often roaming between lanes to assist with ganks and applying pressure while getting some farm when possible.

Very similar to the Offlane role, this hero plays in the most dangerous lane (usually solo against multiple enemies) with minimal resources. Their goal is to survive, disrupt the enemy’s farm, and gain experience to support the team later, often by being difficult to kill or harassing the enemy carry.

Witch Slayer

A versatile support hero with a reliable stun and mana drain, making him effective in controlling enemies and assisting teammates

Pyromancer

A ranged intelligence hero with high burst damage, akin to LoL's Annie, capable of quickly eliminating enemies with his skill combo.

Glacius

A support hero with abilities to slow and freeze enemies, providing crowd control and mana regeneration for allies, making him a valuable team asset.

Swiftblade

Resembling LoL's Master Yi, Swiftblade is a melee agility hero with abilities that grant invulnerability during attacks, allowing for aggressive plays and quick escapes.

For a new player to Heroes of Newerth Reborn, the key mechanics to understand before jumping into the game include:

1. Denying

In HoN, you can attack and kill your own creeps, structures, and even allied heroes (under certain conditions) to prevent the enemy team from gaining gold and experience. This is known as denying and is a unique mechanic compared to some other MOBAs. Timing is crucial to execute denies effectively.

2. Gold Loss on Death

Unlike some MOBAs, you lose a portion of your gold upon death in HoN. Staying alive is not only important for map presence but also to maintain your gold advantage. Avoid unnecessary risks and know when to retreat.

3. Stronger Tower Aggro

Towers in HoN deal significant damage, and their targeting mechanics can punish careless players. If you attack an enemy hero under their tower, it will prioritize attacking you, so positioning and timing are key.

4. Active Items

Many items in HoN have active abilities that can turn the tide of a fight. Learning how and when to use these items effectively is critical to success. Popular examples include Portal Key (blink/dash ability) and Shrunken Head (similar to a magic immunity item in other MOBAs).

5. Fast-Paced Gameplay

Games in HoN are typically faster and more aggressive than in other MOBAs. Map movement, early skirmishes, and quick decision-making are emphasized. Be prepared to adapt to this rapid tempo.

6. Map Awareness and Vision

Wards play a vital role in HoN, providing vision over key areas like Kongor’s pit or high-traffic jungle routes. However, vision is limited, and fog of war is very punishing, so keeping an eye on the minimap is essential.

7. Courier Usage

HoN features a courier to deliver items from the base to heroes on the map. Learning how to manage the courier efficiently can save valuable time and keep you competitive in gold and experience.

8. Hero Roles and Synergy

While HoN shares traditional MOBA roles like carry, support, and initiator, many heroes are versatile and can fill multiple roles depending on the team composition. Experimenting and understanding how your hero synergizes with others is part of the fun!

9. Unique Boss Objectives

Learn the mechanics of Kongor and Phoenix, the two major neutral bosses. Controlling these objectives provides game-changing rewards, so knowing when and how to contest them is vital.

10. Taunts and Psychological Play

HoN features playful mechanics like taunts, which can demoralize or distract opponents when used strategically. While not game-changing, they add a layer of personality and mind games to the experience.

By mastering these mechanics, you'll quickly adapt to the unique and rewarding gameplay of Heroes of Newerth Reborn! Jump into the tutorial or practice mode to familiarize yourself further.

General Overview

Genesis is a early participation, founder-type system on the Juvio Platform designed to help game developers, specifically Project Owners, raise the necessary funds to bring their projects to life. Through Genesis, users can financially support these projects in exchange for a variety of Perks (rewards). These Perks can include: exclusive in-game items, early access to content, or unique rewards like digital artwork or special editions. The system empowers developers to engage directly with their community, while offering supporters the chance to play an active role in the project’s development and secure exclusive content not available to others after launch. Genesis helps bridge the gap between developers and their audiences by turning early supporters into stakeholders who benefit from the game's success.

Genesis benefits development in several key ways:

Direct Funding: By offering their projects to the Juvio community, developers can raise funds without relying on traditional investors, publishers or crowdfunding. It cost time (and money) to make games. Be a part of the process and get some really great Perks for doing so.

Early Engagement: Genesis campaigns help developers build a passionate community around their game, creating excitement before the game’s official launch. Early backers often become ambassadors for the project, spreading awareness and helping build the community.

Feedback and Improvement: Developers can use early support and feedback from backers to improve game features, mechanics, or even storylines. This early interaction allows developers to refine the game before its full release, ensuring a better final product.

League of Legends Player

Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends share the same roots as MOBAs, but they offer very distinct gameplay experiences. Here’s what sets Heroes of Newerth apart:

Turn rates: Heroes have varying turn speeds, adding depth to movement and positioning.

Denying: You can kill your own creeps and structures to deny gold and experience from opponents, a mechanic that LoL lacks.

Fog of War and Terrain Mechanics: HoN’s map is designed with complex terrain that enhances juking (hiding from enemies), with mechanics like trees you can cut down to create escape paths.

Overall, Heroes of Newerth offers a more hardcore, mechanically demanding, and fast-paced MOBA experience compared to LoL.  If you enjoy high-octane gameplay and crave a challenge, HoN might just be your next favorite MOBA.

Teleportation Stone (Homecoming Stone)

Everyone receives the ability Homecoming Stone, which can be used on a 75 second cooldown to teleport to any allied structure on the map, including back to base and even Kongor if you've spawned him to charge down one of your lanes !

You may double-click the Homecoming Stone to instantly teleport back to base.

The cost to use it ranges between 25 and 75 gold.

Yes, Heroes of Newerth Reborn features two unique boss objectives: Kongor and Phoenix.

- Kongor: Kongor is a powerful neutral boss located in a central position on the map. Defeating him rewards the team with significant advantages, including the ability to spawn Kongor at a lane of choice in which he will then begin to push the lane towards the enemy towers, dealing significant damage to them.

- Phoenix: Phoenix is another neutral boss objective that offers a different strategic advantage. When defeated, it provides a Phoenix Egg. This item can be placed in the inventory of a select hero and when that hero is to be killed, they instead will turn into a Phoenix Egg and after a short duration, will resurrect with full life and mana.

Alongside the Phoenix Egg, the Phoenix also drops powerful items. These items are divided into four tiers, with higher-tier and more powerful items dropping as the game progresses. Not only are these items impactful in battle, but they are also tradeable between teammates, adding another layer of strategy and teamwork.

These bosses add unique strategic layers to the game. Teams must decide when to take these objectives, balancing risk and reward while ensuring they don’t leave themselves vulnerable to counterplay from the enemy. If you're familiar with League's Dragon and Baron, think of Kongor and Phoenix as their equivalents, but with unique twists and mechanics that fit Heroes of Newerth Reborn’s fast-paced gameplay.

Heroes

At the moment, each attribute grants the following stats:

1 Strength = 21 Max HP, 0.08 hp/s regen
1 Agility = 1 Attack Speed, and 0.14 Armor
1 Intelligence = 13 Max Mana and 0.05 mana/s regen

If the attribute matches the Primary attribute of your hero, you additional get 1 damage per 1 point of this attribute.

Items

Vision is very important in a game of Heroes of Newerth Reborn to help determine what your next best move may be, or to keep eyes on the opposition.  There are currently a couple ways that everyone has access to in HoN Reborn that provides vision in select locations on the map including the following:

Ward of Sight - Can be purchased from the store for free, has a specific limit amount that is refreshed every two minutes.  Wards of Sight are stealthed by default, and provides vision around an area when placed, however it can be affected by terrain.  There are specific locations on the map that have a high vantage point and are labeled as such, in which a Ward of Sight placement will provide maximum vision in that area.

Ward of Revelation - Can also be purchased from the store for a small amount of gold (and also has a specific limit that refreshes every two minutes). Wards of Revelation are also stealthed and primarily acts as a means to reveal other stealthed units (including stealthed heroes, and other Wards) within a particular radius.

Raven -
The Raven is an ability that every hero has and can be used to send a Raven out to a select tree on the map.  Once the Raven reaches the tree after a short travel time, it will continue to provide sight around the tree for a duration or until the tree/Raven is destroyed.

You can still purchase items while your hero is not near the shop, however your courier has to be at the shop if that is the case.  If your courier is delivering items to you or still returning from a trip, you will be unable to purchase items until the courier or your hero has returned to base.
While your hero is not near an item shop (in general), you can buy items & they will go into the courier stash.

You can then press the tilde ` button to activate the Courier & have it spawn from your ally well and move towards your main hero to deliver your items. Once your courier reaches your hero, by default it will attempt to auto-deliver any items from the courier stash to your hero's inventory, and then return to your ally well by default. You can however issue it to move towards you again & have it follow you until you order it to go back to your ally well.

While your courier is following your main hero, you can transfer items from your hero to the courier stash & have it return back to base.

Enemies can attack your courier to force it to return to your ally well. Your courier will no longer be available for use until it has returned to your ally well.

Maps

There are currently two maps in Heroes of Newerth Reborn that are considered playable which means they have been updated for Reborn and also the ability to queue via matchmaking for.

Forests of Caldavar (FoC) - The original 5v5 map for Heroes of Newerth that is considered the standard

Mid Wars - The much more explosive and fast paced map that only has one lane that players contest
By default, your team cannot see units that are on a higher elevation than yours, unless you have vision of that area from an equal or higher elevation.

There are some exceptions to this behaviour though:

  • If an enemy unit attacks one of your team's units from higher elevation, then your team will be granted sight of the attacking enemy unit for a short duration
  • If a spawned unit/gadget on your team provides Clearvision, then it also grants vision of higher elevation areas within the Clearvision radius of its source.

Vote Kick System

Unfortunately, we do not overturn vote kicks or remove Penalty Points, regardless of whether a kick was fair or unfair.

We understand that the vote kick system can sometimes lead to negative experiences where you should not be kicked. Our team is actively reviewing and adjusting the system to make it as fair as possible, while still addressing poor behavior and encouraging a healthier community.

If you are unhappy with the current vote kick system, we encourage you to share your feedback in the HoN Reborn #feedback Discord channel, where it is regularly reviewed by the team.
